Oulu Sound Hack 2 – Open call

Oulu Sound Hack 2 is a workshop-style meeting place for those interested in sound art and music technology, where we search and find new ways to produce sound and sound art together. This takes place in a stimulating and inspiring space, where it is possible to try new methods in the production of non-traditional sounds.

The workshop will take place at OAMK’s premises from 19th- 21st of September (Thu-Sat), and its goal is to create an experimental, multi-channel sound work. It will be presented at an event open to everyone on September 22nd (Sun) at Culture House Valve. During the workshop days, in addition to the content, the style & duration of the presentation will be decided jointly. After the performance, there will be an open discussion between the audience and the participants.

One of the basic principles is the utilization of multi-channel audio & pair work. The goal is to create a ”channel per work pair” methodology – that is, the audio work becomes multi-channel with the spatial and sound content created by different sound sources, where one channel/speaker/monitor is used for pair work.

According to the interest of the participants, a wide range of sound sources are available:

Electronic instruments (modular, granular synthesis, etc.) and the so-called “hacked” traditional musical instruments (we invent new ways to produce sounds), non-instruments, i.e. ”ordinary” sound sources, sound recorders / field recording and effects devices + combinations of these.

In addition, there is an opportunity to try using virtual reality (VR) in sound work.

The deadline for open calls is 6th of September, 2024.
