International Opportunities

Yes, as an Oamk student you can go on a study or traineeship exchange to Europe or outside Europe. The duration of a study exchange is usually one or two semesters and a traineeship Exchange is two months minimum. Some degree programs also offer short-term exchanges (1 to 4 weeks). All students going on exchange will be paid a grant. All studies or traineeship completed during your exchange will be accredited to your degree at Oamk. You can find more information in oamk.fi/en/study/goabroad/.

Students who have underaged children, who are family carers, who have at least a moderate functional deficiency due to a disability or a severe or chronic health issue or who have received international protection will be paid an additional grant when going on Erasmus+ exchange. In some exchange programs, students can also apply for a special needs and inclusion grant to cover additional costs caused by their special need such as injury, impairment, physical or psychological illness or learning difficulty. Please don’t hesitate to contact the International Mobility Services to ask more at: outgoing.students@oamk.fi. Some degree programs also offer short-term exchanges (1 to 4 weeks). For more information: oamk.fi/en/study/goabroad/.

It is good to start planning your exchange well in advance. For a long-term exchange (one or two semesters) you must apply in the academic year prior to the academic year when you plan to go on exchange. In November you can apply to destinations outside Europe and in February to destinations in Europe. There is no specific time to apply for the short-term exchanges, you usually apply to them through your own degree program when they are available. You can apply for a grant for a self-organised traineeship abroad at any time. You can find more information in oamk.fi/en/study/goabroad/.

When you go for an exchange to Oamk’s partner institutions to study or do your practical training abroad, you get a grant to all destinations. Oamk has made exchange agreements with partner institutions which mean that you do not have to pay a tuition fee in these institutions except in few cases. You do need to pay a tuition fee in possible self-acquired student exchanges (free-mover Exchange), and in partner institutions in Utah, USA, and Danish institutions of North2north-programme. You do get a grant into these exchanges as well.

The amount of grants varies according to the exchange program. We have gathered all the information to oamk.fi/exchangeoptions webpage. You can see the grants for study Exchange from To study? – section and practical training grants under To practical training? section. Erasmus+ programme supports also students with fewer opportunities such as a student with a family, or those who travel with low emission vehicles such as by bus, carpool or train. Oamk provides students also a very extensive insurance. This also decreases students’ own costs.
