The face-to-face sessions will take place at various times throughout the academic year starting with an online kick-off meeting and a short mandatory session in September in Oulu Introduction session (2-3 days in Oulu) Key topics: program structure, introductions to Finnish education, entrepreneurship and service design, research methodologies, clarification of product prototype challenges Online components: Continued self-paced assignments covering education, entrepreneurship and design as well as research thesis topics Fall session (2-3 days in Oulu) (TBC) Key topics: education and market research, prototype design and education innovation industry essentials. Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher, or a corresponding foreign degree. Higher vocational level diploma in Finland is also accepted.
In addition two (2) years of field specific work experience is required after the graduation. If applicant has completed post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma in Finland in any field of education, the work experience between those diplomas and higher education diploma is taken into consideration.
The qualification must have been completed by the July 10 2025. The two years of work experience required for eligibility must have been acquired by the July 31 2025.
If the experience is in the arts sector, artistic activities may be accepted instead of work experience if demonstrated within a portfolio (Law 932/2014). Work experience will be indicated in full months.

Language requirement
The applicants applying to master’s degree programmes must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the English language during the application. More information regarding the language requirements is available here.
Student selection
The student selection is two-phased: advance assignment and interview. All applicants that pass the advance assignment are invited to second phase of student selection and take part in an individual online interview. The advance assignment is required to be presented before the interviews.
1. Cover letter
The cover letter should be minimum 600 words. The purpose of the cover letter is to outline the applicant’s motivation and to share their interest and goals and the readiness to study in the program. In practice, it explains the reason why the applicant should be accepted as a student. The applicant describes their career and plans and how the studies are related to it. The applicant also presents how their intends to organize the studies taking into account work and life situation. The applicant also evaluates their current skills in relation to the curriculum of the applied education.
2. Curriculum vitae
The curriculum vitae (CV) should be presented in a tight format. It should show, among other things, completed studies, work history and a list of publications if applicable
3. Preliminary plan
The preliminary plan should be minimum 600 words.
The development task is also the preliminary topic (or part of it) of the student’s future thesis. However, the thesis topic can be changed during the studies if necessary. In the plan, the applicant must describe one or more development task(s) that they expect to work on during their studies. The development task must be related to an innovation in education. The plan should be detailed and offer a description and timeline of future work necessary for completing this task. It should also outline efforts already completed to support the innovation (if such efforts exist). The plan will be used to assess the student’s approach to a work-based project. Overall, a University of Applied Sciences Master’s degree focuses on research that promotes working life and / or cultural development.
The advance assignment is evaluated on a scale of approved / rejected. The document should be submitted in English in pdf-format by uploading it to the online application on 29 January 2025 at 3 pm Finnish time at the latest.
If necessary, the document may include links to, for example, videos or home pages. It is the applicant’s responsibility that the links function properly.
The maximum number of applicants invited to an interview is twice the number of available study places.
The interview period will take place in March-April 2025. Interview is evaluated on a scale of 0 to 100 points (min. points 20).
