The PropTech Oulu Cluster operates through the expertise of local companies. The Oulu Innovation Alliance (OIA), a local organization uniting public sector entities, supports its development. The cluster specializes in smart building technologies, artificial intelligence in property management, and sustainable urban development.
The cluster comprises various companies ranging from agile startups to established technology firms leading innovations in IoT integration in building management, energy-efficient solutions, and advanced property analytics. These companies leverage the support of OIA’s public sector to transform research into market-ready PropTech solutions.
The collaboration between the public and private sectors within the Oulu PropTech Cluster highlights the city’s strategic role in the global PropTech markets. OIA provides fundamental support, aligning with smart city objectives, demonstrating how local business innovation, supported by the public sector, can lead to advancements in property technology, positioning Oulu as a significant player internationally.
Background of the Project
PropTech refers to technical solutions and platforms that assist real estate professionals and ordinary users in renting, selling, buying, constructing, managing, and leading properties. PropTech can also encompass solutions that refine or utilize data related to the real estate and construction industry value chain.
PropTech is one of the fastest-growing industries, and the Oulu Innovation Alliance (OIA) has identified it as a key theme for support. BusinessOulu has assembled the PropTech Oulu ecosystem. The network has identified the need for understanding the digitizing industry, generating information, building common services and products for companies, and developing and testing comprehensive solutions.
Project Objective and Measures
This project aims to define, identify, and assemble the PropTech cluster. The various functions of the cluster may relate to industries such as industry and circular economy, health, digital solutions, R&D development environments, construction and housing, and smart city sectors. Additionally, the project identifies new business opportunities, both existing and through new startups.
The project develops joint offerings, new business, and company consortium projects. Future business functions of PropTech clusters are aimed to be demonstrated on development platforms such as Oamk’s hybrid laboratory and further applied in other regional development environments. The project maintains connections with PropTech Finland and further international PropTech communities.
