Language skill requirements
Excellent skills in English language are required to success in degree programmes conducted in English. In the spring 2024 admission the following proof of English language skills are mandatory for the applicants taking part in International UAS exam.
Language test results
- IELTS Academic: a minimum total score of 6.0
- TOEFL Academic (iBT): a minimum total score of 60
- PTE Academic: a minimum total score of 55
- Cambridge English Scale Score: a minimum total score of 169 (Test sections: Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening, and Speaking)
Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) English
- Proficiency level 4 on all the subtests (reading, writing, listening and speaking)
Upper secondary or higher education degree completed in English
- EU/EEA country
- Australia
- Canada
- New Zealand
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
- the United States
One of the following grade cases in Finnish Matriculation Examination, European Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate or Reifeprüfung/DIA
- Finnish Matriculation Examination: English on advanced Level with a minimum grade of M
- International Baccalaureate completed in English
- International Baccalaureate diploma: grade 4 in higher level English. Please note that the predicted grade is not taken into consideration.
- European Baccalaureate: at least grade 6.00 in L2-level English
- Reifeprüfung/DIA completed diploma: at least grade 7 in advanced English
Applicants graduating in Finland 2024:
If an applicant graduates in spring 2024 and it is not possible to obtain a required proof of English language skills during the application period, they can still be invited to the International UAS exam. The possible student selection is conditional until the certificates are verified.
The exception applies to those completing the following degrees in Finland:
- Finnish matriculation examination
- International Baccalaureate
- European Baccalaureate
- Reifeprüfung/DIA
- Vocational basic qualification conducted in English

Language skill requirements for Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Required knowledge in Finnish language
In addition to English language skills, applicants are required to demonstrate Finnish language skills.
Oulu University of Applied Sciences requires all selected students to have minimum A2 level knowledge in Finnish language. Separate language test is organised in March 2024. All applicants whose Finnish language skills cannot be confirmed beforehand based on the information given in the online application, are invited to take the test. The separate language test is organised online.
