UULA – New expertise for green transition sectors

1 March 2024 - 31 October 2026

Engineering and Engineering Trades

The goal of the Uula project is to introduce new tools and services to promote employment growth and opportunities for acquiring new skills in the green transition sectors, with a particular focus on the transition of the peat industry actors in Northern Ostrobothnia.

Goals and Actions

The Uula project aims to enhance the employment and business opportunities of the target group through individual career guidance and models that support social inclusion. The project will assess the training and skill needs in the green transition sectors. Based on these assessments, various green transition training programs will be developed and piloted, which will be refined into comprehensive training courses to be implemented during the project.

Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) will be responsible for implementing green transition training as part of the project. Oamk will deliver training on the following themes: green transition business expertise (2024-2025), maintenance and service environments for alternative fuels in heavy equipment (2025-2026), and sustainable indoor and outdoor logistics and virtual factory concepts (2025-2026).

Target Group

The primary target group of the project is actors in the peat sector. The target group also includes contractors and entrepreneurs currently in the workforce who need new business opportunities to secure their employment. Other target groups include unemployed jobseekers, those considering a career change, teaching staff, employees looking to develop their skills, as well as young people and students.

Funding and Collaboration in the Project

The project is funded by the Northern Ostrobothnia ELY Centre through the European Union’s Just Transition Fund (JTF) and the City of Oulu.

The project is coordinated by the Education Consortium OSAO, with Oulu University of Applied Sciences, the University of Oulu, and Koillis-Suomen Aikuiskoulutus Oy as co-implementers.
