Information and Communication TechnologiesMeta Pilot Factory Project
The Meta Pilot Factory project aims to strengthen the expertise of higher education institutions, micro- and small-sized enterprises (SMEs) in metaverse technologies in Northern Ostrobothnia. It promotes the discovery of new business models and opportunities while creating business networks that capitalize on these opportunities.
Project Objective
The goal of the project is to enhance the capabilities of companies and research, development, and innovation (RDI) actors in Northern Ostrobothnia to develop and adopt new technologies and improve digital readiness. By connecting RDI activities with technology development, commercialization, and financial expertise, the project addresses a significant challenge in regional innovation activities. The objective is to impact the international competitiveness of regional companies and the attractiveness of the region from the perspective of RDI activities and the workforce. The aim is to build a more vibrant and economically and ecologically sustainable region.
Project Activities
The project involves mapping the current situation of the operating environment in Northern Ostrobothnia compared to domestic and foreign benchmark cities and regions. The mapping aims to identify key technologies, innovation platforms, and services, along with their development plans (services, technology utilization, partners).
Additionally, definitions for company-driven Proof of Concept (PoC) pilots will be prepared, utilizing the research and development environments of the implementers. These pilots will be implemented and evaluated. During the pilot definition phase, preliminary commercial potential assessments will be conducted, and after the implementations, the goal is to commercialize the results.
Project Funding and Partners
The project is funded by the Joint Task Force (JTF) 2021–2027 program (Renewing and Competent Finland 2021–2027 program, action line “Just Transition Finland”). The funding for the project has been granted by the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia.
Oulu University of Applied Sciences is responsible for coordinating the project. Centria University of Applied Sciences and the University of Oulu are also participating in the project.
