Multidisciplinarity and Interdisciplinarity in the Spotlight – The Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) Holds Its Annual Conference in Oulu in June 2025
Solutions to the world’s complex problems increasingly require multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research, education, and development. An opportunity to learn about and promote interdisciplinarity will be available from June 4–6, 2025, when the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS), in collaboration with the University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences, holds its annual conference on the Linnanmaa campus.
The Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) conference has a long-standing tradition – this will be the 47th time the event is held, but only the second time in Europe. The conference brings together practitioners of multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity, and fields such as citizen science, researchers, educators, graduate students, artists, and funders to engage in dialogue.
The themes of the 2025 conference include:
- Understanding systemic approaches, polycrisis, and interrelationships
- Sustainability transformation as an urgency
- Digitalization serving humanity
- Co-production of knowledge
- Interdisciplinary education as a tool for shaping the future
The conference invites proposals for sessions and presentations in two phases: first, by registering for the session call by November 1, 2024, and then for the abstract call for sessions (mid-December 2024 to mid-February 2025).
Participant registration for the conference is open until May 1, 2025. Early-bird registration ends on March 31, 2025.
More information, registration, and proposal submission can be found on the conference website.
