On average, nine applicants apply for study places in international degrees at Oamk – Nursing is the most popular

A total of 2,562 applicants applied for 293 study places at Oulu University of Applied Sciences in the first joint application round this spring. Thus, an average of nine applicants apply for each available study place.
The most popular degree programme leading to a bachelor’s degree was Nursing, whose 22 study places were applied for by more than 800 applicants. Thus, 37 applicants apply for each starting place in the programme. At Oamk, five Bachelor’s degree programs were open for applications. In addition to the above, the applicants applied for Information Technology, International Business, Mechanical Engineering and, as a new degree programme, Energy and Environmental Engineering.
The most popular of the programmes leading to a master’s degree was Data Analytics and Project Management, which focuses on data analytics and knowledge management. Nearly 14 applicants per study place are applying for a study place in this programme. In addition, there were three other Master’s programmes in the application. Education Entrepreneurship prepares students to work with education export and the development of education systems in different countries. After a short break, the English-language specialisation option Clinical Optometry of the Degree Programme in Clinical Expertise returns, which prepares optometrists and opticians to work in a wide range of demanding tasks related to optometry and eye health. The least interest among applicants was shown in the newly introduced degree program, Innovative Music Performance, which combines various fields of science. The program aims to enhance musicians’ performance skills and promote their research capabilities. However, the program’s launch will have to be canceled due to the low number of applicants.
The number of applicants will be specified
Students coming from outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland pay tuition fees at Finnish higher education institutions. In the first joint application round this spring, which has now ended, they will also pay an application fee of EUR 100 for the first time, which has somewhat reduced the number of applicants. The number of applicants includes those who have submitted their applications by 22.1.2025. The figure will decrease, as applications can be submitted before the application fee is paid and applications from non-payment will not be accepted. The final number of applicants will be known in February, when all applications have been processed.
The results of the first joint application round this spring will be published no later than 28 May.
Each year, you can apply to higher education institutions in three joint application rounds. In the second joint application round for higher education institutions this spring, 11.–25.3.2025, you can apply for Finnish-language bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. Oamk offers 48 study options and 1,782 study places. The last joint application round of the year will be held at the beginning of September.
