Oamk’s pedagogical guidelines

Oamk’s pedagogical guidelines

Pedagogical guidelines ensure the quality of teaching, supervision and learning in all education at Oamk. They serve as instructions for the provision and development of teaching and supervision. The guidelines implement Oamk’s strategy and guide other pedagogical documents. The pedagogical guidelines support pedagogical leadership in all units and at all levels. The guidelines are updated every two years.

  • Oamk and unit level: The pedagogical guidelines are concretised at the unit level. This ensures that they offer functioning models and practices that support learning. Practices are also created and shared across Oamk.
  • Teacher and student level: The guidelines provide structure and support for all teaching and supervision work. The pedagogical guidelines are concretised in the teachers’ work. They also guide the students’ learning

Learning – for it and because of it

  • Learning is the basis of our operations. We work for it and because of it.
  • In learning, we aim for higher education-level, comprehensive knowledge, skills and information retrieval skills and critical thinking, which help develop workplaces.
  • Learning is based on open materials and information retrieval.
  • We support various ways of learning by using diverse pedagogical methods. Our principle is that everyone is entitled to supervision.
  • High-quality learning benefits students, the higher education institution and workplaces.

Competence-based approach – focus on competence development

  • We offer students a personal and flexible learning path. The student’s competence is identified and acknowledged. Competence can be flexibly acquired and demonstrated through work-based learning, for example.
  • Competence development and demonstration are guided by the curriculum, which is drawn up in cooperation with teachers, students and employers.
  • We ensure the appropriate scope, alignment and interconnectedness of the competence goals, assessment criteria, content and implementation of courses.

Sense of community – inspiring cooperation

  • We hear, see and interact with one another.
  • We create an inspiring and respectful atmosphere that supports interaction.
  • We support equal inclusion and active agency. We develop our education to make it increasingly accessible.
  • We build an interactive feedback culture that serves as the basis for continuous development.
  • We develop communities and networks with workplaces.

Our students are committed to learning and studies. Studying is the valued work of students. We support our students’ growth into active knowledge builders and sharers. They develop into experts in identifying, developing and expressing their competence. The professional growth of students is an essential part of their learning process.

Our teachers are experts in their field. They use modern research results and forecasting information and pay attention to the needs of workplaces. They work to promote and supervise learning using appropriate pedagogical methods, which they are not afraid to develop. They take students’ different learning needs into consideration.

All Oamk staff and students support and develop the community.

  • Our education is up-to-date, proactive and practical.
  • Employers are our partners; we listen to them and work with them to jointly renew the future workplace.
  • We identify changing needs in the workplace and create diverse development opportunities for continuous learning.
  • In our research, development and innovation activities, we develop future-oriented new learning opportunities.
