From Open UAS to Degree Student

Accepting the Study Place and Enrolment

The study place must be accepted and the enrolment for spring term 2025 completed by latest 13.12.2024 at 3 pm Finnish time. Confirm the study place preferably electronically with the link that has been sent to your email or in the My Studyinfo -service. If you have Finnish online banking credentials, a mobile certificate or a smart ID card and a reader, you can confirm the place by logging in to the My Studyinfo -service from the link on top of the Studyinfo.fi front page. The My Studyinfo -service has instructions on how to confirm the study place electronically.

If you don’t have possibility for strong identification or the link you received from Studyinfo does not work, send an email to avoinamk@oulu.fi and we will send you the acceptance letter by email. Then you can fill in the confirmation/enrolment form you received in your acceptance letter and send it by email to avoinamk@oulu.fi. Make sure that the higher education institution receives your written confirmation no later than 13.12.2024 at 3 pm. If the confirmation arrives at the higher education institution late, you will lose the study place.

You can only confirm one higher education study place starting in the same academic term.

You must also register as an attending or a non-attending student for spring term 2025 by 13.12.2024 at 3 pm.

Acceptable reasons for absence

According to the Universities Act/Polytechnics Act (325/2015 § 29), a first-year student may enroll as absent for the academic year for the following reasons only:1) Service under the Conscription Act (1438/2007), Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007), or Act on Women’s Voluntary Military Service (194/1995);2) parental leave to take care of their child (birth or adoption) (52/2022);3) Student is prevented from beginning the studies due to personal illness or injury. Please see more information about enrolment for the academic year.

Registration for Courses and Accreditation of Learning

As a degree student, you make course enrolments in Peppi at the beginning of your studies. Note! You can only sign up for a course with a new degree student’s right to study (different student number in Peppi). You can enrol after the Academic Affairs have created a degree student’s right to study in Peppi. You can find the instructions for enrolment in the student’s Peppi guidelines.

The studies you have completed at the Open University of Applied Sciences do not automatically transfer to Peppi. You must apply accreditation of learning from the open studies you have completed. Make the accreditation of learning application at the beginning of your studies.

If you have completed your Open studies at Oamk, please save your study attainments from Peppi (ORDERS header of the top menu).

Your study right at the Open UAS expires in February/September (depending on your acceptance time) and you will not be able to view your study attainments from Peppi after that. You can view your study attainments in Peppi by changing the profile to an open student in the top right corner of the page as long as the Open UAS study right is valid.

Tuition fees and scholarships

At Oamk the amount of the tuition fee for Bachelor’s degree is 10 000 € per academic year. Tuition fee is charged from the non-EU/EEA students (including UK citizens) studying in the English degree programmes who do not hold the Finnish residence permit that gives the exemption from the tuition fees. Document proving the right for exemption must be submitted before the tuition fee is charged.

The tuition fee must be paid in full by the due date. If you fail to pay the tuition fee within the given due date, you will lose your right to study.

Student Username

The student username of those who have studied their Open studies in Oamk will not change. If you are unable to get your student-ID work, please contact ICT Services.

If you do not have an Oamk student-ID, retrieve your Oamk username and password in August before your studies begin.

Devices

For your studies you need to have a laptop/computer, good internet connection and a working browser (for example Google Chrome). In addition, you need to have a headset with a microphone for online teaching and guidance appointments and a web camera. As a student you will get a MS 365 service for free. This includes applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote etc. Register to MS 365 service with your student username.

Digital Starter Package

Studying at Oamk requires good digital learning skills and the management of digital services that benefit and enable study. To support these skills a Moodle Digital Starter Package has been built. This will help you learn how to use the digital programs and services necessary for learning.

You can get started with the Digital Starter Package after you have received your student username and password. You can get familiar with the tasks included in this Digital Starter Package independently on your own schedule. We recommend that you complete the Digital Starter Package before the start of your studies or during the orientation week / first period of studies. At the beginning of your studies, the degree programme can provide more detailed instructions about the tasks in the Digital Starter Package.

Digital Starter Package will open in Moodle in the beginning of August. Log in to Moodle with your student username and password.

After logging, register yourself in the course area Digital Starter Package 2024-2025. As a course key for the Digital Starter Package, you use an enrolment key, which you can find on the home page of the course area.

The digital starter package is available to you throughout the first school year. You can return to the Moodle platform to review things during the first school year, if necessary.
