Sustainable campus

Sustainable development is visible in everything we do. We are committed to responsible operations – as individuals and as a university community. We pay attention to financial, social, cultural and ecological sustainability in everything we do. We evaluate the environmental load of our operations and how we can impact the sustainability of nature with our day-to-day decisions.

Sustainable life on campus

The main message of Oamk’s sustainable development action plan (2018–2020) is You can make an impact. The plan has been drafted in collaboration with the personnel and student association OSAKO. The objective is that every person at Oamk must be aware of their responsibilities and can assess their actions from the perspective of sustainability.

The perspectives are:

  • cooperation with other universities — social responsibility
  • sustainable development in the daily life of the campus — sustainability operations
  • internal and external communications — awareness of sustainability.

Our objectives in the action plan are:

  • to develop a Sustainable Campus Life operational model for Oamk’s campuses
  • strengthen good sustainable development practices
  • promote the responsibility of Oamk’s sustainable development operations — ecological, financial and sociocultural contents — at different events and during theme weeks.

The Sustainable Campus Life operating model ensures the continuation of Oamk’s concrete environmental responsibility and sustainable development work in the Linnanmaa premises.

Sustainably renovated

Oamk has applied for a certification from the international BREEAM sustainability assessment method for the renovation of Oamk’s Linnanmaa campus. BREEAM assesses the eco-friendliness of construction and complete buildings according to nine categories. These include materials, well-being, energy, project management, mobility, emissions, water, waste and land use.

Social responsibility report

Oamk published its first social responsibility report in 2019 (only in Finnish). The report discusses Oamk’s social activities and impact. The key themes are social and financial responsibility and environmental responsibility. The contents of the report follow the GRI corporate sustainability reporting standard (Global Reporting Initiative). The social responsibility report will be published annually.
