Cross-Institutional Studies

Cross-institutional study is an opportunity for a higher education student to complete studies from another Finnish higher education institution.

  • Students must be higher education institution degree students with an annual registration status as ‘present’.
  • Students will have a temporary study right in their target institution and the study right will be valid for the duration of the cross-institutional studies.
  • Students can choose courses that have been listed in a network agreement about cross-institutional studies.
  • The rules of the institution that organizes the course must be followed.
  • The assessments are made and registered in the target institution and the credits can be transferred to home institution by accreditation of learning.
  • Before enrolling, contact your study advisor to find out the available options for you and to approve the studies as part of your current studies at your home institution.

This page provides information about the practices related to cross-institutional studying at OAMK. You can find cross-institutional study options and registration instructions below.

Instructions for Oulu University Students

Familiarize yourself with the course catalogue and and update your study plan. Make sure that you are able to include the cross-institutional studies to your degree in your home institution. The studies must be included in your personal study plan PSP. You can only enrol in courses that can be approved to your degree.

At the moment there are two ways to enrol depending on the course:

1. Most of the cross-institutional courses can be found in Oulu University’s Peppi and you enrol in the same way you would in your own courses. You can find cross-institutional courses in your personal study plan PSP. After enrolling, the teacher must accept you to the course before you get the study right. You can see the registration status in your personal study plan.

2. If you can’t find the selected course in Peppi, you can enrol by submitting the Webropol application. You will get an approval letter if you are accepted to the studies. Follow the instruction e-mail that you received and participate in the course as instructed by the teacher.

Transfering Study Attainments to your Home Institution

If you have enrolled in the cross-institutional studies through Peppi, the course assessment will automatically transfer to your study records without the accreditation process. If you enrolled by submitting a Webropol application, you can print your transcript of records from Oamk’s Peppi. Take the transcript to Academic Affairs in your faculty where your studies will be transferred to University of Oulu. You can also share your transcript as a link from the My Studyinfo -service. To log in, you must identify yourself to the service with a bank ID, a mobile certificate or an ID card with a chip.

CampusOnline is a year-round digital course offering provided jointly by Finnish universities of applied sciences. You can select courses from other universities of applied sciences free of charge and include the studies in your degree. Before enrolling, check from your tutor teacher (or head of the degree programme) that the course is suitable for your degree.

The courses are free of charge for degree students (Bachelor’s/Master’s) at universities of applied sciences and for Open UAS path students. Also students from schools of professional teacher education may select courses and complete the courses free of charge.

Registration

Registration for CampusOnline studies is easily done through Peppi/Pakki, in the same way you would enroll in your own courses. You can find cross-institutional courses through Peppi via your personal study plan (PSP). You can also see the registration status in your personal study plan (PSP), and after completing the course, the assessments will be transferred to your study records without the need for recognition of prior learning (RPL/HOT) or sharing links from the My Studyinfo webpage. Please note that you cannot re-register for the course through Peppi’s Cross-study Service if you have already registered for the course through the previously used registration system.

After Registration

You will receive a confirmation email when your registration is accepted (Note: The email may end up in your spam folder). At the beginning of your studies, you are granted with a personal student account. It’s your key to systems and services of the the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) during your studying. You will receive an automatic email from ICT Services when your user account is available. You will find your username in the message and, among other things, instructions on how to set a password for your user account through the suomi.fi authentication service. However, if you do not have a Finnish personal identity code, you will receive a corresponding e-mail message and, in addition, a temporary password as a text message to the phone number you indicated.

After that, log in to Moodle with your Oamk student credentials. The Moodle course will appear in the ‘My Courses’ section when the course begins. If another online learning platform is used for the course, the teacher will send the necessary information by email before the start of the studies (remember to also check your Oamk email). You can find more information about your user account and Moodle at the bottom of this page.

Cancellation

You can cancel your registration while the registration period is ongoing. Cancellation is done on the student desktop (Pakki or Peppi) under the “Registrations” tab. If the teacher has already accepted your registration and you still want to cancel, send an email to campusonline@oulu.fi. Include your name and specify the course for cancellation in the message.

Good to Know about Studying at Oamk

Courses usually have a quota group for cross-institutional students. You should apply for the courses well in advance before they start. Some courses are only offered for students of certain degree programmes.

As a cross-institutional student, you will be granted a temporary right to study at Oamk. The study right is granted when the teacher accepts you to the course. The length of the study right is determined on the basis of the studies you are completing. With the study right, you can only study the cross-institutional studies that you have selected.

You can find the course timetables at Oamk Schedule Tool (Lukkarikone).

The study assessments are registered within three working weeks of the assessment event or the designated return date of the study assignment. If a student fails to submit their study assignments by the designated due date, the assessment is provided within six working weeks.
