International peer tutors

Our student union OSAKO  and our International Services will be assigning a peer tutor to you on 13 August in order to make your start smooth and keep in touch with fellow students during your exchange. Once you have received the tutor assignment message (shared Excel list), contact your peer tutor and provide him/her with your contact information.

We’re using Facebook groups for all exchange students and peer tutors of Oamk – feel free to join in!

Arriving in Oulu

Please let us know your arrival information as requested in your admission email. You will be / have been emailed a link to an internally shared Excel list by which you must provide your arrival information. You can access the link with your browser and add relevant information on your part.

In case of changes in your travel arrangements, swiftly inform your peer tutor and incoming.students@oamk.fi about it.

Please make your travel arrangements for the official arrival days and times:

  • Autumn 2019: 20 - 21 August between 10 am and 20 pm
  • Spring 2020: 2 January between 10 am and 20 pm

Our international peer tutors will be ready to meet you during the aforementioned times at our Kontinkangas campus. Our peer tutors have signed up in advance for specific on duty hours, so it could be that your own tutor cannot be present at the time of your arrival, but in such a case any other tutor on duty will be there to help and guide you. Please note that the arrival services applies only to your arrival in Oulu, and that you have to cover your own travelling expenses in all cases.

If you have obtained housing from the private market, you need to make arrangements for the key and tenancy agreement by yourself. You may, of course, approach your peer tutor and enquire about possible assistance on mutual terms. See http://u.oamk.fi/accommodation > “What if…”.


Autumn 2019:

  • Arriving before 20 August:
    Please pick up the key to your room in the Välkkylä dormitory directly from PSOAS's accommodation office during summer office hours, see https://www.psoas.fi/en/contact/. At the same time, please devise your tenancy agreement directly with PSOAS. Bring your ID document (passport or other ID). You can then check in to your room in the Välkkylä dormitory on your own.
  • Arriving during 20 and 21 August (official arrival service days!):
    Our tutors will provide your with your room key at Kontinkangas campus. Please devise your tenancy agreement during the joint orientation day of Oamk. PSOAS joins the event. Bring your ID document (passport or other ID) to the orientation day for signing the rental agreement with PSOAS!
  • Arriving later than 21 August:
    Pick up the room key by yourself from PSOAS’s accommodation office downtown Oulu.

Spring 2020:

  • Arriving before 2 January:
    Arriving earlier is only possible if you come on your own and accommodate temporarily at a hotel/hostel. Moving in and keys to PSOAS rooms will be only available from 2 January.
  • Arriving during 2 January (official arrival services day!):
    Our tutors will provide your with your room key at Kontinkangas campus. Please devise your tenancy agreement during the joint orientation day of Oamk. PSOAS joins the event. Bring your ID document (passport or other ID) to the orientation day for signing the rental agreement with PSOAS.
  • Arriving later than 3 January:
    Pick up the room key by yourself from PSOAS’s accommodation office downtown Oulu. 
Orientation days and study information sessions

We arrange orientation days for all incoming exchange students. Participation in orientation days is mandatory, as they are an excellent way to start your exchange and get to know each other.

  • Autumn 2019:
    22 & 23 August (programme, map
  • Spring 2020:
    3 & 7 January (The programme and map will be published later)
    (28 February: Intake option only for students arriving for 3-month mobility period in health and social care.)

You will take part both in a joint orientation day of Oamk, and in a campus- and field-specific orientation day.

Our joint orientation day offers you plenty of practical information on living in Oulu and making your way at Oamk. It consists of presentations and a market place event with interactive stands. During the day you can sign your tenancy agreement with PSOAS. Our peer tutors will offer student-led activities in the afternoon.

Our campus- and field-specific orientation day provides you with detailed information on your studies. You will take part in a session with international services. Our peer tutors will offer campus tours. Our field-specific international academic coordinators will have a study information session in order to share information on academic conduct, ethical guidelines, enrolment to courses, schedules and other possible timetables.

Check in meeting and administrative documents

1) Get your Finnish personal identity code (PIC) if you are staying longer than 3 months

For detailed instructions, please consult the country-specific information provided on our website in the section on "Registration and personal identity code".

2) Submit your arrival form via MoveON

Log in to the arrival form with your MoveON credentials (username = email and password) from your MoveON application. Include your Finnish personal identity code (PIC) and update your emergency contact information and your insurance documentation. Submit the form before your check in meeting, if possible.

3) Book your check in meeting with your international administrative coordinator

Make your booking only once you have obtained your teaching or working schedules during or shortly after the orientation days for the following 1-2 weeks, see information below. If you are coming at other times, then please agree by email or phone on an individual meeting with your international administrative coordinator. Check the responsibilities and locations hereafter:

4) Come to your check in meeting. Bring along required documents from your home university, if applicable

If you are coming later than usual (trainee, exceptional intake options), then please individually agree on your check in meeting with your international administrative coordinator. In addition, please make an appointment with your international academic coordinator or traineeship supervisor to find out about matters related to your studies or traineeship.
